This year has been very difficult to say the least due COVID-19. As much as we’d like to carry on with specific traditions that we’ve always loved, it may be safer to make some changes this year. Hugs will be replaced with a distanced wave, caroling and religious meetings will be virtual, and masks will cover up our smiles. Although the things may look different, the act of giving back to others should still be prioritized. Acts of kindness helps cultivate the spirit of togetherness during this challenging time.
Provided below are some creative ways to give safely:
1. Donate Blood
Giving blood is just as important when you give it safely. You can research blood donation centers near you and set up an appointment. These centers have implemented several precautions to keep you safe during the process.
2. Host a Virtual Toy Drive
Toy drives are a safe way to give while distancing. You help a family in need by hosting a virtual toy drive. You can host a virtual drive by creating an Amazon wish list and sharing it with your loved ones.
3. Write Letters to Seniors
Visiting seniors has become difficult in 2020 due to the global pandemic. They are the most at-risk population, which has unfortunately left many seniors isolated. Sending letters to seniors is a great way to reach out and connect and show them that you care. You and your families can brighten a day by decorating fun and sweet letters to the elderly.
4. Make a Meal for a Family in Need
Even in-person shopping is restricted, there are still ways to access food. Help someone from afar by making them dinner. Whether you feed one family or dozens, a hot meal is one of the best gifts you can give. Although, it is important to remember how to handle food safely.
5. Safely Volunteer with Charitable Organizations
It is critical to continue giving to charities. Some organizations have adjusted the way they work to make sure that they are able to provide critical services that their audience depends on. Research how organizations have adjusted to embrace the latest safety norms and get involved.
6. Start a Family Fundraiser with Your Families
Give your kids a chance to give back by raising money with them. Initially, you should choose a goal that everyone agrees on, like buying gifts for sick children or sponsoring a family in need. Then develop a list of simple tasks that your kids can do to raise money. The more tasks that are completed, the closer they will be to their fundraising goal. It may be helpful to match their earnings to show your appreciation.
7. Do a Secret Kindness
Giving without recognition may be very important. Work with your children to identify a few people that they would like to support. Families can drop off gifts or kind notes to their doorstep. You may find that you bake a favorite treat or give away a toy. It could even be as simple as paying for the coffee for the person behind you in the drive-thru line. Get creative and remember that the most important thing is that the other person’s appreciative.
Overall, giving can also be life-changing for children and families. Sharing what we have with others isn’t about how much we give; it is about how much we share. No matter the size or shape of your donation, you can difference in someone’s life. Show your generosity and spread positivity with safe giving opportunities.
