Interact is seeking funds to equip the sensory room in our activity center. This space will serve adults with autism by acting as a “Snoezelen room”, allowing for self-directed stimulation in a soothing environment. The space can be utilized as a primary activity room or as a safe retreat from other activities. With the help of staff, consumers will be encouraged to explore and utilize the sensory room and its equipment as they see fit. The goal is to encourage consumers to gain maximum pleasure from their activity of choice in a safe, soothing environment.
We are hoping to equip our sensory room by this spring. Your donations will help the dozens of people we serve each day. You can learn more about our program on our website: https://intercommunityaction.org/idd-services/day-services/
Intercommunity Action’s mission is help people live fulfilling lives by providing resources for Aging, Behavioral Health, and Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities. Our vision is “everyone deserves a fulfilling life.” Interact serves over 5,000 adults, children, and adolescents every year in over 20 programs across our three program divisions. We serve the Philadelphia neighborhoods of Roxborough, Manayunk, East Falls, Andorra, and Wissahickon, as well as surrounding communities, and several of our programs are citywide.
Intercommunity Action, Inc., or Interact, was formed in 1969 by a small group of community residents who saw a need for behavioral health, intellectual disability, and other human services in their community. Despite having few resources other than their own skill and determination, these citizens successfully obtained funding to establish the first free-standing community mental health and mental retardation center in Philadelphia.
